The culture of rape and shame (Busola Dakolo)

According to Warif Nigeria, 10,000 girls are raped everyday!!!! How do we change this? So that our daughters, sisters, and mothers do not become part of the statistics. We need to start empathizing with rape victims, that's how! MAKE RAPITS ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS!  There is NO excuse for rape. NONE! It dosen't matter if the victim requires 1 year or 1000 years to speak up. Speaking up is not easy and requires a person to put themselves under scrutiny. No one chooses that. If someone tells you they've been hurt and the first thing you do is blame them for being hurt then Jesus wasted his life dying for you. The compassion of Jesus is lost on you and if you're Christian you're no better than the people who chanted "crucify him".  Another response I've read is on the issue of silence. We don't all react to things the same way. That you screamed when assaulted doesn't mean I will. Are you people serious! Common! It's 201...

Double Identity

I once knew of a little girl with such big dreams and wide imagination, Everything she read she willed to being the first time she left the little town of her birth She traveled to a land far away from the troubles that ailed her family from the troubles that ailed her she walked on streets made of gold She traveled to countries that made her heart dance and although she’d never seen them before, in her mind they were familiar no people or race was alien to her but one day she was forced to see she was different she was forced to see her dark skin and hear her heavy accent she was forced to see her afro hair and her religion she was forced to see the shameful past that surrounded her people And although they tried to bury her in shame She destroyed their expectations and blazed a new path for herself.

The night I fell in love

Her last words ring on: " I 'll love you even in death" Like the bell that sits on church tower calling for devotion her words ring on Though not here the warmth of your touch clings to my skin like a plague upon it Time flies but the thought of you sticks to my memories like hairs to the head refusing to grow wings..... Every night I see the invisibility of your presence hovering around me I can swear to it I hear echos of your silence reverberating in my head. As you dangled between life and death Although you spoke no words everything you said was heard the words that came out of your eyes: " This is how far I can go with you someday we'll meet in a better place......" but her last words linger on: " I'll love you even in death "
