George Floyd

Surely by now you've heard about the killings in the United States of America. My feelings of ancestry and connection with African Americans and in turn the African American struggle is simple, they are my sisters and brothers. I also used to have posts about the marginalization of black people, especially when they are killed and lynched by white Americans. I wonder sometimes, much like all social ills (corruption, child & human trafficking, rape, domestic abusers) how ingrained racism must be for some people. But I've had to remind myself that you cannot cry more than the bereaved. This is a Nigerian saying to say, that I have given the leadership on such matters to the people directly affected by it. I recognise that change must first start internally. I have taken this stance on Nigeria, Nigerian politics, Nigerian politicians...and by extension(due to my affinity) the struggles of African American's. I don't understand It and both issues break my heart. G...

Cash or Credit Questions

I'm going to be answering some of your questions around credit. In case you've forgotten or don't know I worked in the banking industry for 6 years, my last role being a mortgage lender so I am qualified to answer these questions. Here are some of your credit and cash questions: Do I need to apply for credit if I have cash? How do you get yourself out of a bad debt situation? How can i boost my credit worthiness? So many questions, so let's get started. I've always been a simple girl and years ago my dream car was the nissan micra. It was small, stylish and so customizable I wanted one. When I mean customizable i mean customizable! I had a neighbour who had one with very long eye lashes just above her car lights. Her car was pink inside and outside. I wanted one badly. So I got my licence, after the 4th go hahaha and on one fine rainy Sunday afternoon, much like this one, I gathered my family and friends and went to buy my dream car. I found my car,...

The Trap of Tolerance

When we migrated to Australia in 2007 as a 17 year old, I was asked to go back to high school to finalise my final year high school education. Because I had finished high school in Nigeria nearly 2 years prior I was not keen. Instead I chose to complete a 1 year College degree that was a bridging course to uni. This turned out to be a good decision. I met friends who I will hold in my heart forever and learned so much about my new home.  However one word that kept getting thrown about with every lecturer i had was how tolerating Australia was. I was almost always uncomfortable with the word tolerance until I realised why. Let's get into some technicalities shall we? Some definitions: To tolerate according to the Oxford dictionary is to “allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of (something that one dislikes or disagrees with) without interference.” And: to “be capable of continued subjection to (a drug, toxin, or environmental condition) without adverse reaction. In or...

Happy Austravasion Day!

Indigenous Australians occupied the Australian territories 60,000 years before European settlement. When the Europeans arrived in Australia in 1788, they had declared the land terra nullius (land empty) because there were no inhabitants, Housing, legal system or evidence of European civilization.  Indigenous Australian culture was such that tribes relied on the land for sustenance but had no direct ownership of the land for land was life.  With the arrival of the first fleet saw the spread of small pox which devavsted the indigenous people and significantly reduced their population. Further, because indigenous Australians were perceived by the Europeans to be akin to animals they were killed in conflict without questions. Between 1910-1970, many Indigenous children were removed from their families as a result of an Australian Government policy now known as the stolen generation. The aim of this policy was to assimilate based on the assumption of black inferiority and white...
