"Netherlands university student David Levy, who recently completed his PhD on the subject of human-robot relationships, says before 2050 there will be a widespread availability of robot lovers and carers: machines that will look, act and talk like humans. These robots would become so human-like in appearance, function and personality that many people would fall in love with them, have sex with them and even marry them".When i first read this piece, the first thing that struck me was the optimism of the writer which has inadvertently left me very disturbed. The most outrageous claim notwithstanding is this "... when there are robots that have also emotions, personality, consciousness. They can talk to you, they can make you laugh. They can ... say they love you just like a human would say 'I love you', and say it as though they mean it ..."...this phrase left me baffled. For more on this story click the link below:

Like everything else there is always an advantage and a disadvantage to it. I'd hate to think Carrie Snow was right when she said “Technology... is a queer thing. It brings you great gifts with one hand, and it stabs you in the back with the other." Isn't this so true? I mean what is it with humans and the constant urge to be the architect of our own destruction or in this case demise? A few years ago i wrote a poem i called Cap'N Tech, as in Captain Technology (i will avoid writing the contents of the poem here so as not to bore you), Cap'n Tech told a story about Technology and how it was leading the world to a land called "no-body knows where". This article constantly begs the question: why the hell do we need human robots anyway? As of the 24th of November 2009, the Earth's population was estimated to be 6,798,964,716 (I'm not even sure i can pronounce that in numbers! Was that six billion or is it trillion?)and baby we are still counting. Now there were questions from the article I'd love to answer because they asked me. Since I'm an awfully objective and rational person, i will attempt to attack these questions as objectively as possible:
Question 1-"Will they (as in robots) have rights?"
My answer: Well, duh! Since they are sooo smart why the hell will they not seek to be "understood"??? As a matter of consideration, they'll even quote Martin Luther on this one "I have a dream that my future generation (note:"four children" was removed from the original speech) will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin or by the curse associated with being a robot, but by the content of their character". Bahahahahahaha...awesome!!! I hear a standing ovation from the year 2050 already.
Question 2: "Will they, in a relationship, have emotional needs that we must respect?"
My answer: (Coughing violently)...emmm...(another spasm)...my goodness, this is a STUPID question indeed. Aren't they supposed to "talk to you about what is interesting to you. Have similar interests to you, talk to you in a manner that pleases you, have a similar sense of humour to you."???
CONSEQUENCES
Apart from war against humans or fear they'll kill us all...or wait..the fact they will be heaps smarter than us, another cause for concern is that there will no longer be trans-gender(ism) as we know it, this time it'll be called trans-robotism since humans will start swapping their genders in order to be robotised. Come to think of it, the term "robot" will be out of use as well since it'll be seen as derogatory and demeaning, hahahahahaha...boy, how i love technology.
you are talking about what could happen just before 2050, newsflash!!! It's already here, just the other day, i read on the internet, that a japanese man just got married to his nintendo ds... Now that's a videogame, d reason he did that was because of a 'virtual dating game' he was playin, he fell inlove with the virtual girl he was datin in the game, don't ask me if she consented to the marriage, lol, i even read that people, i mean 'breathin people' relatives friends and all that attended the weddin and reception, l.m.a.o. I wish i could get the picture and post it somehow, this is nooo joke it actually happened, so don't be suprised if this robot things happens sooner than later, lol, there're a lot of questions i wanted to ask, but seeing that this is like a 'public forum' i'd rather keep my ''filthy questions'' to myself, lol.... Hahahaha.
ReplyDeleteHahahahahha, i'd love to know. I don't think anyone will see it anyway!!! Hahahahaha, pretend you're talking to just me, hahahhaha!!! I understand what you're saying, some other woman got wedded to a wall!!! I know a wall!!! Anyway, i say good for her, lol. Anything that makes her heart beat, hahhahaha. But the real, actual like-live (breathes, mates, thinks, is intelligent, has an opinion)robot will be out in 40 years time. Hopefully umm...sooner so i can ummm...use them before i get old, hahahaha!!!
